THE CHESA WAZZAU - THE HOLIDAY HOME IN THE ENGADIN NEAR ST.MORITZ

An original Engadine house from the 17th century.

Swiss idyll like from a picture book: In the Chesa Wazzau, an Engadine house from the 17th century, one feels set back in time by a few centuries. The apartment has been renovated so as to preserve its original character.

A house with character

Gentle, careful renovations have made the Chesa Wazzau a rare object for lovers: kitchen, corridor and bathrooms are equipped with granite floors, the bathroom and kitchen are heated by underfloor heating. On the ground floor of the house there are two Stüvas (living rooms), a spacious vaulted kitchen, a large bathroom with vaulted ceiling, a single room and a large anteroom (Suler), which invites you to linger in a large circle. On the two upper floors there are five bedrooms and a small bathroom.

A jewel in the Engadine

The Chesa Wazzau, a massive stone building with a wide saddle roof, is a typical Engadine farmhouse. Characteristic are the small windows, which look like loopholes: The smaller the windows, the less heat the house emits to the outside. To ensure that as much light as possible nevertheless reaches the living rooms, the window recesses are built to the outside like funnels. The living room windows are oriented towards the street or the forecourt - after all, you want to know what's going on in the village.

Surroundings & Location

The Chesa Wazzau offers space for up to 12 people who would like to spend a holiday in the beautiful Upper Engadine. There are plenty of excursion destinations: The tranquil village of Bever is surrounded by charming countryside and St. Moritz is only a few minutes drive away.

The rooms in detail

living

Front Stüva

Typical Engadine Stube - the Stüva - on the right not visible the stove and a small staircase to the upper bedroom. Internet and W-Lan are available. E.g. Fondue, Pizzoccheri or Capuns for 6 - 10 persons, a cosy place to enjoy dinner, very private!

living

Sulèr

Large room for many and much. At the tables 8 - 12 guests plus 2 toddlers can enjoy themselves in high chairs. Here we chat, play, eat and laugh, because the room measures approx. 55 m2 and has a room height of 3 meters.

kitchen

Vaulted kitchen

After the renovation the kitchen has become bigger and more original again. The character has been preserved, but with all the modern comforts of underfloor heating in the kitchen and bathroom.

living

Rear Stüva

The rear Stüva in Chesa Wazzau. A room like in a picture book, because the walls and the furniture made of Swiss stone pine would tell stories if they could. Also an ideal room to retreat for a while or watch TV.

sleeping

Single room

A nice wooden room is on the ground floor. A single room for guests avoiding the stairs.

bathroom

Bathroom

One bedroom was sacrificed to the new bathroom. The lavabos and toilet by Phillip Starck, the vaulted ceiling and the granite floor slabs give the room a modern atmosphere.

sleeping

Burel

A bündner Swiss stone pine room par excellence, small, cute, golden. The perfect place to tell the children stories or read them aloud. But also adult persons, if they keep to 1.80 cm height, sleep well here.

sleeping

Princely Room

The stone room is blossom-white, appealing and noble, probably therefore the name princely room. You will certainly feel at home.

sleeping

Swallow Room

A large bedroom with 3 single beds and a suite. A cot, if it should sleep with the parents, has also enough place. Several original pictures decorate the room.

transit

Upper Sulèr

Passage and storage room for cots, highchairs, changing cushions, etc.

sleeping

Jenatsch Room

The room is named after the politician Jürg Jenatsch. The room has a theatrical aura, archaic and authentic, inviting you to take a break.

bathroom

Small bathroom upstairs

The bathroom is small, but still indispensable. After all it offers a washbasin, a toilet and a shower on the upper floor.

transit

Barn

The former barn is today a visually precious space and offers space for everything possible and impossible. The barn is not for rent, but is the protected (car-free) passage to the garden.

sleeping

Balcony Room

The balcony room is the uppermost room in the house and as the name suggests the south-facing balcony can be used for tanning and aperitif at the same time.

outdoor

Garden

Small, secluded garden of the Chesa Wazzau, surrounded by magnificent Engadine houses. Rest, read, play, eat, chat, ... everything mostly under a blue sky.
